MORNING
STAR
How little did I realise the
huge impact the day Morning Star found me would have on the rest of
my life. So I didn't write down the date.
I came to know her
through my online diary. She commented and within no time we
mailed.
She was an inspiring woman and she touched my
heart. Which was of great importance as I was going through a
very difficult time.
It was nice to meet a spiritual guidance
counsellor, because I worked as a grief counsellor and had no
collegues to talk to. Since some time my far away native american
roots grew into my daily life, opening me up to visions I couldn't
put into words, bringing alive a strong interconnection between
african and native american influences. Meeting her seemed to be
a perfect natural part of my life.
Even more, because we
shared the love for walking in the woods, playing guitar and
singing, and poetry.
What a pity we lived so far away. She as
a respected person in her community in Canada, and I lived with my
family in Europe.
But through our mails we grew towards each
other very fast. Our souls recognised each other.
Then came
the evening the phone rang. Her voice touched me deep and we were
silent for a long time. Imagine: a phonecall from Canada to
Europe and two people are silent! From that moment on we knew we
were spiritual sisters and we spoke about it in
amazement.
For her, it was a time for discovering the
connection between the past and the future.
When her mother
was killed by a drunk driver in august 2001, she thought she was
left with no family. Morning Star was part of twins. The
father told her sister died at birth.
Shortly after moving
out of town with his family, he left them and, as later would be
found out, he joined another (white) woman. She was not native
american and disliked the native ways, so the little twin sister
grew up being wipped each time her native roots found their way into
her life.
When she was about 6 (or 11) her father died, and
she was forced to stay with the woman another 6 years.
They
wouldn't have know each other at all, where it not that we are all
guided on our path with a gentle hand.
In november 2001 the
twinsisters were in a shop. A woman approached Morning Star's sister
to make an appointment for counselling. She spoke to her sister,
while Morning Star stepped near.
Thus they met: Gail and
Morning Star.
It was a happy time. We made a lot of jokes
about meeting each other and being spiritual tripplets.
We
talked about names. Gail was called Star when she was little, and
when I got a vision about a Diamond Star, the elders were asked to
name her as native: Diamond Star. They agreed, and not long
after that, on a friday, the Medicine Woman at New Brunswick who had
officated for Morning Star, also officiated for Diamond Star. The
drumming went on for 17 hours
Diamond Star was eager to learn
the native ways, and she was brought again on a two hours drive to
Medicine Woman.
Morning Star missed her a lot. We mailed
frequent during those days and we talked on the phone. Life was
presenting many changes and Morning Star thought about quitting her
job, at least for some time, to dedicate her time to get to know
Diamond Star better. They were 57, and deeply grateful to have
met each other.
Our last call was the night after I'd seen a
hawk in the garden of a friend. It was un unexpected event, as we
live at the borders of a town and hawks are never seen here. She
called in the middle of the night. I was downstairs, couldn't
sleep because I was trying to find out why I heard my native name
clearly in my head when the Hawk looked three times at me before it
flew away.
When the phone rang I wasn't surprised. Our
spiritual connection was strong. I drank in the sound of her
voice, we talked about which decisions to take, and we talked about
the future: we three meeting each other.
When I told her that
I had been outside, watching the stars, and that that made mee feel
even closer to her, she felt very happy. "Always do that, because
I will hear you with my heart and soul", she said to me. She
enjoyed the thought and asked me every time I could see the stars,
to greet her. She would do the same.
Then she told me I
wouldn't hear from her the next day, because she would go the 2
hours drive to go to Medicine Woman and Diamond Star and bring
Diamond Star home. She agreed to bring my greetings to Medicine
Woman and she promissed to call me when they would be
back.
She never called.....................
