tuesday june 13 2006

Don't tell me the thirteenth is only a problem on fridays.... it isn't.

I hardly slept, because it was far too hot. (10 days ago it was freezing at night).
I thought the day started well, as I managed to get a shower early in the morning. Which is not always possible with 6 kids.

As the computerscreen was acting weird the last weeks, I had the feeling I should check it.
It went dead on the spot.

Stef was at home, and we already had a screen, as we got one when Nyo got his new computer.
So I had to clear the area, and we exchanged the thing.

Then the painters came.
That's to say, one was yelling from the garden of the neighbours that he wanted to speak me.
I wasn't coming as soon as he wanted to he bigmouthed me.

Well, I'm not accepting that anymore.
So I told him I'm a very kind woman, but I won't accept strangers treat me like they have morning sickness and want to spread it.

It took them the whole morning to paint two windows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sooo happy this is a rented house and there's no need to pay them by the hour.

Later we had a good talk and he turned nice.
He got water and I'm getting paint to paint the shedwindow myself.
That's a good treat, as they would have to cut away my plants to reach it.
In the front garden they killed all but one hydrangyae, so I'm glad they're staying away there.

Just when I thought what would follow today, I got a call from Jim.
School had phoned that Nyo (autistic) had a confrontation and slapped around to free himself from the crowd, hitting the art teacher...

Nyo's wrist was caught between the door and he should go to emergency.

Well, I always stay calm. When the wrist had really been broken they wouldn't have called me but an ambulance.
They're a km from the hospital.

As the painters were still here and Stef has free transport, he went.
With thourough instructions not to hesitate to go to the emergency department at the hospital near here. He could call and I would come.
It's 15 minutes to get there, so that's less than the waitingtime.

Like I thought, nothing was broken, and the slapping happened after his wrist had been between the door, so....

Turned out that kids had been provoking him untill he went mad. He wanted to leave the classroom, as he is supposed to do when he gets angry, and they kept him from leaving.
Then his wrist came between the door, and he yelled from pain.
That teacher came, and Nyo doesn't remember what happened.

Knowing what happened earlier this year, I think the teacher reacted as wrong as always. Coming far too close, touching him to try to calm him... and as most autistic kids don't want people touching them, Nyo felt he needed to defend himself.

At home he felt OK, apart from pain in his wrist.
Turned out he'd forgotten to take his meds this morning, which shouldn't be a problem, as that meant the dosage the psychiatrist wants him to use (lower than what we know works.)
He took his meds and half an hour later he was sleeping. Woke up after an hour in good spirits.

Then I got a mail from his mentor, telling his behaviour couldn't be tolerated.
Yea.., tell me that...
And he wanted to make an appointment.

I always directly mailed him back in the past, stating the times we're available.
But this time I just swallowed the reaction and forwarded the mail to Jim.
He's taking a day off on friday. Appointment at 13.00 hours.

I think I'll mail that psychiatrist tomorrow telling her she's welcome too.

....and the thirteenth isn't over yet.........................

saturday june 10 2006

I don't do textmessages on the phone.
Mainly because I can't see good enough all the time.

I got a textmessage and when I looked where it came from, it's Nyo's birthday, I pressed a button and the message came up.
It was from the band.
I could read only half and didn't know what to do to read the rest, so I yelled for help and, lucky me, the right sons came and helped me read the rest. LOL!

The band had a contest and played well. They got 7th overall, and were winners at discipline and winners at marching.

Wooohaaa!!!!

Funny thing is they don't want to look too militaristic. LOL!
Marching and discipline...

As it was an international contest this is absolutely great!!!!!

fridayday june 9 2006

Couldn't find anyone to drive, the train takes 4 hours with 4 changes, so saturday is a day at home.
I ordered the whistle instead.
It sweetens my absence from the contest a bit...

The painters are doing the backsites of the houses now.
Last year the government made a law by which no gardenbladders are allowed anymore, so they're using a huge thing to stand on. Taking it from house to house.
I'm afraid it won't be able to get it through togarden, as it has to move under the willow. And I'm sure not taking that branch off.
I have to get rid of the washing lines, chairs and some other things, and then I can only hope they have enough room between the house and the playhouse.

I even feel stressed by this, so that isn't good at all.

The girls came home with good news. They both go next year to the teachers they prefer.
We've been very lucky, as a new group will be started by someone we don't want to teach one of the girls.

She said it was not normal they wanted to kiss each other goodbye before the schoolday started.
Well, they're twins. And they were 8 at the time.
Give them a break!!!

Later we heard she had commented on the affection between a mother and a child, so we thought there must be some jealousy or unhealthy thoughts involved.

It was before the school got childcare on our roof and we mentioned this to the woman who investigated us.
She said the same what we thought, so it's not us who think strange.

Not that we need someone to comfirm we're thinking straight, but the pressure the school was putting us under was not normal.

So the girls are happy.
I'm a bit less happy as Yinti gets the teacher Nyo had in his last year, and it was a complete disaster.
So I told Yinti I had some reservations and she smiled.
"Don't fuzz, mom.
That teacher won't be around the first 6 months as she is pregnant and doesn't intent to go to work before 2007."LOL!

Yinti now hope she'll get one of our favorite fill in teachers, who lives in the street here.
He's a kind guy, and a good teacher.

When I sat down in the evening, someone was at the back door.
It was the mother of friends of the girls.
She only contacts me when she needs me.
I stepped outside and we had a talk in the garden.
Finally the weather has changed.
And...yes.... she needs a babysit next monday. I told her Stef would be perfect. LOL!

Well, time to make some preparations for Nyo's 10th birthday tomorrow.

wednesday june 7 2006

I'm in doubt.
Saturday the band is playing in Germany. It's an international contest. Two years ago they participated and won.
I would love to go, but....
- when I come back everything here is a mess and it will take days to get on top of it again. Let alone the fact that Jim can't handle the kids.
- I have to ask someone to drive. It might not even be possible to find someone to drive there for a day.
I was supposed to go with someone, but she has to drive so many km's extra to get me, that it's really too far. At the moment I don't know anyone who goes there for only a day.
The rest will be going two or three days and stay overnight.
- I'm so very tired and it will be very hot that day...
- And I'd rather have a bagpipe whistle. I know I'm awful. But I sure want to become a good bagpiper.
Not they have whistles with the same fingersetting as the bagpipe. So using it will only make me play better. And they can be used too when I'm having problems with my lungs.
Isn't it great they are making them now? And the lady of the site is a very wonderful woman, I have been told.
In case you're interested: have a look here.
Isn't it a pity they don't fall out of the air? LOL!

Now I'm in doubt.... going to Germany for the contest, or beg Jim for money for that GHB whistle.

Got the painters at the door at 8 this morning.
They needed to have the door open... at 8!!!
Well, it's done now, so the front looks great.
Within two or three weeks we'll get a new door for the shed, and the back will be painted.
These are the good moments when you've rented a house.
Not that we get a lot done. But the house looks great again after the back is done too.
